"YL Ebony Bey" is a 1990 homozygous black purebred Arabian stallion, bred and raised at YL Ranch. He has sired numerous exceptional foals for me, several of which have recently been added to my Purebred Sales List. "Ebony" is an IAHA Sweepstakes Nominated Sire, and tested SCID Clear.
"Ebony" was sold to Mr. & Mrs. Victor Todaro and their lovely daughter, Bettina, of Montevideo, Uruguay in mid 2001, and was exported to their ranch in Uruguay that December. They had "shopped" long and hard in the United States and elsewhere, seeking a superior black stallion qualified to be their foundation herd sire for Bettina's pending black Arabian breeding program. Also traveling to Uruguay on that eventual long flight with Ebony were two homozygous black Arabian mares, one of whom was in foal to Ebony for a 2002 black baby. The mare, "LR Kohlin Witez," presented Bettina with a beautiful black colt two months after her arrival in Uruguay who has since been successfully shown by her at Halter. The other black mare, "CF Sasha," is currently turning heads in Uruguay as a superior Reining Horse prior to eventually joining Ebony's broodmare band in the future.
Because YL Ebony Bey was so instrumental to my breeding program at YL Ranch through the years and accumulated a sizeable "fan club" who, even now, several years after his departure, continue to ask me about him, I'm keeping Ebony's memory alive at YL by giving him a permanent residence on this website. I'm pleased to report that according to his owner, Bettina, Ebony is very happy and healthy. The photos she sends me regularly certainly indicate that, and he is continuing to sire exceptional foals for her, pictures of whom she also shares with me during foaling season.
My most exciting news was received when Bettina informed me in September of 2002 that "YL Ebony Bey" was selected "Grand Champion Arabian Stallion" at Uruguay's Expo Prado 2002, their equivalent of our US Nationals, and at that same show, was also chosen by the Judges as the "Best Arabian" exhibited, regardless of gender (competing against all stallions, mares, and geldings shown). Bettina is an experienced, attractive, and very competitive young owner and exhibitor and needless to say, she and Ebony obviously made quite a good team at this highly prestigious show. (Please note photos the Todaros forwarded following the big event.)
After Ebony's very successful 2002 showring debut in Uruguay, he has since been tending to business at home as a breeding sire and enjoying his life as an aristocrat of the first order. He continues to live up to Bettina's expectations in all regards, and is definitely living a life of luxury in South America. The Todaros have issued us numerous invitations to come visit Ebony and tour their ranch. One of these days we plan to manufacture some free time and take them up on it!
